The Golden Age of Hollywood

About

Margaret Perry graduated from Principia College with a double major in History and English Literature, with a focus in film studies. She wrote both her senior capstones about Hollywood star Katharine Hepburn. Her English thesis was a feminist critique of two Hepburn films in which communities of women were central to the plot. Her history capstone examined the extent to which and the ways in which the feminist principles of M. Carey Thomas’s Bryn Mawr College contributed to shaping Hepburn’s feminist persona. In 2010 Margaret attended the Wordsworth Summer Conference in Grasmere, England where she submitted a paper in which she applied the feminist male gaze film theory of Laura Mulvey on Wordsworth’s ‘Ruined Cottage’ poem. Margaret now lives in Belle Vernon, PA where she maintains a blog devoted to the life and work of Katharine Hepburn.
